GOOD TO KNOW

Plan your Willemstad visit

Quick answers for deciding how long to stay, how much to walk and which parts of the historic center to combine.

Is Willemstad walkable?+

Yes. The central historic districts are suitable for exploring on foot, especially Punda and the route across the Queen Emma Bridge into Otrobanda. Curaçao’s heat can make a long midday route tiring, so bring water and sun protection and consider mixing walking with a guided ride if you want to cover several neighborhoods.

Which side is better: Punda or Otrobanda?+

They offer different experiences, so it is usually better to visit both. Punda is compact and centered around the colorful waterfront, shops and historic streets. Otrobanda has more of a neighborhood feel, with murals, lanes and a different view back toward Punda. The Queen Emma Bridge makes them easy to combine.

How long do you need in Willemstad?+

A half day is enough for the main waterfront, Punda and Otrobanda. A full day gives you more time for Scharloo, Pietermaai, food and a guided activity without rushing.
